Building a Secure and Innovative Public Sector: Highlights from Our Strategic Sessions

On May 22 in Schilde and May 27 in Ghent, Ometa hosted two inspiration sessions that brought together compliance officers, IT representatives, DPO’s, cities and municipalities from across the public sector. The theme was timely and crucial: How can government institutions balance strict compliance with efficient workflows.

Urgency

With legislation like the VTC guidelines, NIS2 and the EU’s new AI Act reshaping the public sector’s responsibilities, many attendees were seeking practical ways to remain compliant without slowing down innovation.

Enter Ometa’s hybrid approach

We demonstrated how integration of both structured (ERP, CRM, DAV, MAGDA…) and unstructured (emails, drawings, PDFs, etc.) data can pave the way for secure and efficient information workflows, without unnecessary duplication and always with the user experience in mind. By separating non-confidential from highly confidential data, organizations can decouple their storage strategy, keeping sensitive information within their own trusted infrastructure while still leveraging Microsoft solutions for general data.

Key Themes and Live Demonstrations

Across both days, attendees heard from experts including:

  • Kris Proost, DPO at Welzijnszorg Kempen, who shared pressing insights into privacy risks and governance challenges.
  • Marijn Willems from Combell, who presented the clear advantages of local European cloud infrastructure, compliant, resilient and sovereign.
  • Tom Van Eysendeyk from Pidpa, who offered a compelling real-world use case on how they securely share real-time data with municipalities, the public centre for social welfare and contractors using Ometa’s case management concept.

In our live demos, participants saw how cases evolve across their lifecycle, contracts, customer interactions and legal documents. All securely managed and integrated into familiar Microsoft environments. We also showcased digital archiving, SharePoint integration and private/public cloud orchestration.

From Inspiration to Implementation

The energy in the room was tangible. Attendees weren’t just passive listeners, they engaged, questioned and envisioned how this approach could work within their own organizations.

Multiple government agencies have already taken the next step, scheduling follow-up meetings to explore how they can implement a solution within their environments.

Why It Matters

At Ometa, we believe that compliance and innovation should not be at odds. The right technology stack, combined with strong local partnerships, can empower public institutions to meet regulatory demands while embracing the digital tools of tomorrow.

With EU data sovereignty top-of-mind, our hybrid solution ensures that sensitive information remains protected and accessible, even across complex networks of partners, systems and users.
